Nestled amidst the mist-laden hills of Chundale, Vythiri, House in the Mist is designed as an immersive retreat that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. The architectural vision was to create a home that dissolves into the landscape, embracing the shifting layers of mist, dense foliage, and the ever-changing hues of the Western Ghats. The design follows a vernacular-modern approach, integrating locally sourced materials such as laterite stone, exposed concrete, and timber to establish a dialogue between tradition and contemporary aesthetics. Large cantilevered overhangs and deep verandas respond to the region’s heavy monsoons, ensuring passive cooling and protection from the elements. The courtyard-centric layout allows natural ventilation and diffused daylight to filter through, enhancing spatial fluidity.
