With the residence only covering a quarter of the entire plot, an opportunity arose for the contoured land to be a sanctuary of sorts for the built form. Taking advantage of the inherent site levels, the house perches on the highest parcel, opening to a rubber plantation to the south. The inner courtyard enclosed on top of grill work and gala brings in a dynamic shadow play throughout the day. The concept of energy-efficiency extends to the inside, much like the rays of light through the perforations on the curved Jaali wall wherein the perforations also invite birds to nest in them—a living, breathing skin. In the primary bay, sit-out, living, dining room, kitchen, and work area are arranged in the indicated order. The secondary bay has the bedrooms and their toilets and a courtyard to which all the bedrooms open. With the dining room in the middle and an indoor patio above it that serves as the family room in this home, these two bays are joined by a linear courtyard in the central bay. The moniker of this project refers to the burst of colors employed throughout the home. The house is filled with contagious energy with pastel hues that appear on the walls, furniture, wall art, metal fabrications, décor items, soft furnishings, etc.
